Would you like one of my dolls for FREE? Enter my contest here!

Welcome to my first giveaway!! The item that I am giving away is this little man named Peter. My son Reed named him for me. Reed has both a cousin and a friend Peter. However, this doll looks nothing like either of those people:)

I started making dolls last summer using a combination of new, vintage, and my hand printed fabrics. The dolls with moustaches have been very popular with the ladies! Peter's tie is one of my screen prints. I love geometrics. This one was inspired by the concrete block walls of mid century modern fame. Unintentionally, it looks a bit like funky caning too:)

If you think Peter would look nice sitting on your couch...or maybe he would be a welcome addition to your child's doll collection...or maybe you just love him...please enter my giveaway.

It's going to be pretty simple. Answer the question below to enter. The draw will take place on Friday, January 27th.

The question is...What is your favourite handmade item? It could be something you made, bought, or were given as a gift. It could be something you use everyday. Or maybe it is something you have up on a shelf. Perhaps it is framed on your wall. It could even be tucked away in a trunk somewhere.

Thanks for entering my giveaway! If it goes well, I will do more in the future for sure.

  1. I love your dolls! My favourite handmaid item would be the play tent I made my 15 month old niece for Christmas this year. It looks like a little house, with a picture window and everything :) She's a little young for it, but I know one day she'll love it as I do.

    Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

  2. Hi Heidi, I'm so excited for this giveaway...I bought 2 of your owls at the one of a kind show before Christmas, and they sit on my bed every day looking bright and lovely. My favourite handmade item(s) are the homemade knitted mitts that my grandma used to make me. I have many pairs that she made for me over the years, but there is one pair in particular that I LOVE! She made them with this bright multicolored wool that changes to a different colour every few inches. These are my most prized winter possession and I am very careful/almost hesitant to wear them because I would be so deviated if I ever lost one. I will cherish them forever :)

    Have a great day!!

  3. My favourite handmade item is my mother's ring that I got in memory of our twins. I'm searching for a new perfect ring now that we also have Ethan in our lives.

  4. I would love to love Peter! My favorite handmade item is a little clay frog that my oldest son made for me, probably about 10 years ago. I know he took a lot of time and effort to make it, he knew that I loved frogs. It has always been in a visable place, no matter how many times we moved :)

  5. My favorite handmade thing is some molded together styrofoam pieces that Claire made at daycare. The older kids made things but Claire was only about a year old. It sits on my desk at work and it just reminds me how small she used to be. I love it!

  6. My favourite handmade thing is the baby's first christmas ornament my husband made for my son this year. We did a wood burn picture onto a slice off the trunk of our tree this year (also was his first christmas tree)!

  7. Peter is a dapper, dashing fellow! Can I name two favourite handmade items?

    1. My elderly neighbour and dear friend was in the habit of making everyone in her life gigantic knit Christmas stockings. She made one for me when I was about eight years old, and she made one for my husband when we got married. Sadly, she did not live long enough to make one for my son.

    2. Another knit item, this one made by me: the big bad baby blanket I made with beautiful soft blue wool for my son while I was pregnant.

(Oops, I guess that was three things!)

  8. My 80 year old neighbor crocheted a Pink Blanket for Peyton and delivered it the day we came home from the hospital. I love it and wrapped her in it daily when she was a baby now its in one of her drawers but she brings it out every now and again and asks me to wrap her up like a baby in it...

  9. I am in love with your designs, and would love to share Peter with my 2 year old, Jake.

My favorite handmade gift is a crocheted rabbit that my husband's godmother made for Jake. I also have a gorgeous handcrafted silver rose pendant that hangs from a string of tiny pearls. I wore it on my wedding day!

    Thanks,

  10. Hmmmmm... there is no way to pick just one! My answer would have to be all of the hand-made gifts I have ever been given... and I will tell you why! I know that while my sweet friend Erin was crafting my silver lily earrings for me, and while my uber-talented artist friend Lady Vic was painting me that gorgeous pink and black pretty skull pic, and while my sister was beading her stunning dream-catcher for me... that they were all thinking of me and putting all their love and good wishes for me into their creation! I know they were reminiscing about the good times we've had, the trials we have slogged through together, the shoulders we cried on when we needed a real friend. I know that when Laura bakes her cookies she is thinking of how I will like them, and when Johnny makes me jewellery, he is thinking about how I will look wearing the treasure he made while loving me. A hand-made gift from the heart can't be beat, because they come from the true, deep and most generous place of a friend's heart... and for that reason I don't think I could ever pick a favourite. Love is love is love! And every time I see/look/feel one of those items, I feel all the love and good vibes that were put into the piece... just for me!!! :)

  11. Peter and all your new little people are just amazing! I know some special little people that absolutely love their monkeys and I know a new little person that would grow to love Sir Peter. Hope all is well! Love, Bean in the Nova

  12. This is a tough one. I would say that my favorite handmade item is a painting my husband and I bought on our honeymoon in Vietnam. It is beautiful and vibrant and reminds me of that special adventure. I am also in love with the knit owl named Archie that my mom just gave me- a gift for her first grandchild.

I would love to give Peter a home. He is so cute!

    Thanks for the contest!

  14. Heidi:
Your crafts are so sweet and you are so talented!
I am sooo jealous, cause I am not a crafty person. My oldest sister, Cathy, does everything...knits, sews, crochets..u name it, and she can do it. She once made me a picture in which she embroidered, "Friendship is a special gift that binds two souls together, but only sisters share a bond that truly lasts forever". She put it in a wooden frame and painted it orange with flowers in the corners. So often, it's easier to write down our feelings than to speak them! Hopefully, I will keep this forever and one day not say, "Hmmmm, which sister gave this to me?" LOL

  15. Hi Heidi - I hope it's okay for me to enter too :) I LOVE Peter!!! He is so adorable.

My favourite handmade item is the knitted baby shawl my Nanna made for Simon when I was pregnant - she was around 89-90 when she made it and she didn't actually finish it because her physical health wasn't great in her last few years so my mom finished it - she knitted a scalloped border for it. Handmade is like a cult in my mom's family - and I'm pretty sure this shawl was my Nanna's last project.

  16. Heidi - just love your stuff. Hoping another kiddo comes along for us so I can decorate their room with some of your things! Peter would look great in my son's room now though!

My favorite handmade thing is a pinecone Christmas tree with lights that my mom made about 30 years ago. It was put out every Christmas, and I inherited it from her a few years ago when they downsized. It still gets a prominent space in my home every year and really bring the holiday spirit my way!

  17. Well, we love all things hand-made!

But, our whole family agrees that we cherish most highly the paper-bag puppets we crafted years ago to represent each member of our family.

We were living in a fixer-upper when we made them and our craft room was always a mess, with three boys under the age of four having access to all manner of art supplies.

I still remember watching the three boys and my husband create their paper-bag puppets along with me, finding joy in each crazy colour chosen and each uninhibited line drawn.

The puppets are now framed and are one of the first things we see upon entering our home. They continue to be a reminder to me of what family AND hand-made items are all about: love, creativity, and colourful characters.

Come on up the street to take a peek at them sometime!

And, one more thing - the boys have a Grampy Peter who lives in the Maritimes and they miss him terribly ;-)
